Bridget Murphy – Manager
Bridget Murphy is the Manager of Literacy Aotearoa Wellington with 14 years of management experience across the public and private sectors. Since 2003 she has played an active role in the organisation, firstly as a volunteer tutor and in 2010 was awarded Life Membership for her outstanding contribution. Her qualifications include the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Adult Literacy and Numeracy) and a Bachelor of Arts. She recently completed her Masters in Adult Literacy and Numeracy. Bridget combines her love of tutoring with a strong strategic planning and organisational skill base.
Lauren Reweti – Māori Advisor / Programme Coordinator

Lauren holds a Tāhuhu Whakahaere (Masters of Māori in Management) from Te Wānanga o Raukawa. With a diverse range of experience, including working at Te Wānanga o Raukawa and researching Treaty of Waitangi claims, Lauren brings with her a passion for Māori education and commitment to upholding the kaupapa of the organisation.
Linley Leong – Tutor
Linley Leong has 30 years’ experience in education and training with a Diploma of Teaching, Bachelor of Education and National Certificate in Adult Literacy Education (NCALE). Linley is a numeracy specialist and has consulted on a number of national projects regarding numeracy education.
Jill Ritchie – Tutor
Jill is a literacy specialist with considerable experience in the school sector. She holds a Master of Education – Literacy and Language and brings with her almost 40 years of education experience. Jill is passionate about working with adults to help them achieve their literacy goals.
George Sutton – Tutor
George is a specialist computer tutor. He loves to share his knowledge of technology with people who have little or no experience with computers. George has a degree in Computers Systems and has dedicated considerable amounts of time working for not-for-profit organisations where he can share his skills and talents.
Liz Sutherland – Tutor
Liz has considerable experience in working with ESOL students and holds a degree in English Language and a Trinity Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language. Liz is talented at teaching technical writing skills including grammar and spelling. Liz initially joined Literacy Aotearoa Wellington as a volunteer but enjoyed the work so much she is now part of the team.
Melanie Winthrop – Tutor
Melanie is a casual tutor at Literacy Aotearoa currently undertaking NCALNE (Level 5). She holds a Higher Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education. Initially a primary school teacher and deputy principal, she has many years’ experience in facilitating professional development across the school sector, including three years as a literacy coach in elementary and middle schools in New York City. Over the past few years she has been involved in the development of Learning Progressions for Years 9 and 10 and this work has increased her interest and passion for adult literacy and numeracy.
Sue has recently moved up from Christchurch and runs MathsTuition, which provides one-to-one tuition in Mathematics and Statistics for Years 6 – 13 (including NCEA Levels 1-3). She also helps adults with Numeracy and Literacy and is very happy to have joined the team at LAW. Sue has a Bachelor of Science(Psychology, Maths) from Massey University and the NCALNE (Educator) in Adult Literacy and Numeracy.
Anne Haddon – Tutor
Anne is a computer technology tutor with more than 26 years teaching adults through community education and Private Training Establishments. She has managed IHC computer training and been a teacher’s aide for students with disabilities. She enjoys imparting her knowledge and seeing the benefits of students learning a new skill. Anne has a Microsoft Mous Qualification and a WP Teaching Diploma.
Howard Lukefahr – Tutor
Howard is a tutor with decades of experience teaching and tutoring in the tertiary sector. With a Ph.D in Physics and National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (NCALNE), Howard is passionate about helping learners achieve their goals and transform their lives through learning. He has experience in workplace and community literacy, numeracy and digital literacy education.
Koshie Williams – Administrator
Koshie has had a variety of health and administration roles in her career. She has returned to the workforce after studying at Whitireia Polytechnic for several years. She brings to the team a warm heart and high level of organisation and coordination skills. Koshie is the centre of life at LAW, always welcoming with a smile and has a great sense of humour.
David Bailey – Financial Administrator & IT Support
David is our man behind the scenes who keeps everything running smoothly at Literacy Aotearoa Wellington. His meticulous nature means that our finances are well looked after and our technical equipment is always working when we need it.
